New TV Series begins production in Masvingo ahead of digitalisation

As Zimbabwe is gearing up for a revolutionary shift from analogue to digital in TV broadcasting come this June, the national broadcaster ZBC and independent producers have been engaged in meetings deliberating on content. A new teen series from Masvingo could not have come at a better time.

The show tells the story of a group of teenagers who ,after almost losing a friend to drug abuse, decide to create a new pastime in the form of a dance team. They engage a skilled but disturbed choreographer to lead them towards competitions. The deeper story, however, surrounds the home, school and work life of these youths in their quest for a meaningful existence in Zimbabwe's ancient city of Masvingo.

In as much as the national broadcaster is going to spearhead most of the content production there is still an opportunity for independent broadcasters to push their content in support of the national broadcaster's initiative.

Independent producers will however need to push their game a little further up the quality chain in terms of storytelling, cinematography, editing and several other aspects of film and TV production inorder to make an indelible mark.

If the national broadcaster provides some guidelines to required content it will be easier for independent producers to have an appreciation of what is required of them.
Watchout for the teen series 'Eleven PM' coming out soon on TV.
