Leaked descriptions

'Mayaya Too'
was written by David Dzatsunga and the story is set in the urban and rural enclaves of Zimbabwe, the poverty stricken and crime-ridden ghettos and the desperate rural folks who rely on subsistence farming and hand-outs from siblings and relatives in the cities and the diaspora.

One of the major features of the set-up is the corrupt police and judiciary where justice is bought on supermarket shelves. The police, the prosecutor and the judges are as corruptible against the backdrop of very poor civil service salaries and the prospect of a bleak retirement.

Also prominent is the rise of urban ghetto youth culture symbolised by the rise of the Zimdancehall music genre influenced by the Jamaican reggae culture. Most youths have taken up this genre because it is cheap to make, record and ride on one’s luck into stardom and indeed offers an escape route from urban ghetto poverty.

'The Great Con' was written by Nosta Mukaro who will also be directing the film. It is a love story that blossomed during the diamond rush and economy scourge of 2008. The fast paced thriller tackles the diamond underworld business and the prominent unscrupulous survival tactics whilst delving into an unsanctioned romance between two ill-fated lovers.

Magical Films director and filmmaker, Edward Chombe revealed that the feature films are scheduled to begin shooting in Masvingo in April, for an expected 2015 release.
